Data Archiving in IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer

IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer environment has two databases:

  • MySQL production database: Stores the production file transactions and action executions.
  • Archive database: Stores the archived file transactions and action executions.

The retention period defines the number of days to retain the file transaction data in the production database before archiving to the archive database.

Configuring IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer for Data Archiving

Configure the retention settings to archive data in the production database.

To configure IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer for data archiving

  1. Go to Database archival and click   .

  2. In the Database archive settings dialog box, specify the following and click Ok.

    Field Description
    Retention period (days) Type the number of days to retain the file transaction data in the production database before archiving to the archive database.

Archiving Data with IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer

Archive the file transaction data on the production database after configuring the archive settings on IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer.

To archive file transaction data with IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer

  1. Go to Database archival and click Archive Now.

  2. Read the confirmation message and click Ok to proceed.

The log of the archive process appears in the database archival list.

Searching for Archived Data

Search the archive list to view the details about archived file transaction data based on the date and time, status, and user ID filters.

To search for archived data

  1. Go to Database archival and specify all or one of the following search filters:

    Field Description
    Date and time Select a time period from the list or specify a custom date range, and click Ok.
    Status Select one of the following:
    • All. To list all the archived data in IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer.
    • Success. To list the data that has been archived successfully.
    • Failed. To list the data that has failed to be archived.
    • Warning. To list the data that has been archived with warnings.
    User ID Type the user ID of the user who ran the data archival.
  2. Click Apply for the changes to take effect and click Reset to clear the values.
    The archive list is populated with the archived data details matching your search criteria.

  3. Click any record to view the details.

Scheduling Database Archival

Scheduling the archiving of the database allows you to automate regular archival routines of your production database. Archiving the database regularly prevents data overload, streamlines database performance, and significantly reduces database degradation caused by large volumes of data.

To schedule archiving the database in IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer

  1. Go to Database archival and click   .

  2. Select the checkbox Schedule database archival.

  3. In the Database archive settings dialog box, provide the following details:

    Field Description
    Retention period (days) Type the number of days to retain the file transaction data in the production database before archiving to the archive database.
    Time By default, IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer schedules archiving the database every 24 hours. Specify the time for archiving the database. Your account settings govern the time format and time zone for archiving the database.

Note
Scheduled archiving of the database will be the default database archiving mechanism in the upcoming releases of IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer with a reduced upper limit for the Retention period.
